1/2 onion, minced
4 cloves garlic, minced (can substitute 1 tsp. Garlic powder)
3/4 cup Jack Daniel's whiskey
2 cups ketchup
1/4 teaspoon red pepper
1/3 cup vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup white corn syrup
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
3/4 cup molasses
3/4 teaspoon Salt
1/4 cup tomato paste
Mix onion, garlic, and whiskey in saucepan and cook for about 9 minutes.
Remove from heat and flame mixture for about 20 seconds.
Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then turn down to low heat and simmer for about 15 minutes; stir continuously.
Allow sauce to sit and gain flavor for one (1) hour.
Reheat to thin sauce and run it through a medium strained to remove chunks of onion and garlic.
Store sauce in refrigerator; it improves with age.
The strained onion and garlic make a great chip dip.
onion and garlic bits can be left in the sauce if you prefer the chunky style of sauce.
