Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 12 slices bread
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk

  • Melt margarine in a 9 x 13 cake pan. Add brown sugar and cinnamon. Mix these together to make a paste and spread evenly on the bottom of the cake pan.
  • Stack sliced bread to cover bottom. I use 12 slices of bread, stacked in 2 layers of 6 slices.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk together. Pour over the bread.
  • Refrigerate overnight.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes covered. Then, bake for 10 minutes uncovered.

"I thought this recipe would be great because I could make it the night before and have it ready for the kids in the morning. Everything went good until the French toast started to cool slightly. The butter & brown sugar layer on the bottom hardened and I couldn't even scrape it out. We had to just take the top layer of toast off and eat that. I was pretty disappointed because this sounded so good."
