1/2 cup butter - softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar - plus extra for coating
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
24 maraschino cherries
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon butter - melted
2 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
Cream the butter and powdered sugar together until fluffy.
Add the milk and vanilla. Beat until blended.
Whisk the flour and salt together in another bowl and then gradually mix into the creamed mixture.
After all of the flour and salt has been mixed in, divide the dough into 24 pieces. First divide the dough into even quarters. Roll each quarter into a log shape and then cut each log into 6 even pieces. Roll the pieces into balls.
Flatten each ball and wrapped around a cherry. Roll back into a ball shape and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350°F for approximately 18 minutes or until the bottom edge is just beginning to brown.
Remove from the oven, allow them to cool for about 5 minutes on the cookie sheet and then roll them in powdered sugar to coat evenly. Place on a wire rack to cool.
After the cookies are cooled combine all the ingredients for the glaze and stir with a fork until smooth.
Place the glaze in a small bag, clip one corner of the bag, and then drizzle the glaze over the cookies.
