Mama's Spaghetti Sauce & Meatballs Recipe

Homemade spaghetti sauce done the right way. The meatballs are seasoned and cooked directly in the sauce. As the sauce simmers, the flavor of the tomatoes and everything else just melds together.

  • 1 can tomato paste (12 ounce can)
  • 3 cans tomato sauce (29 ounce can)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2 teaspoons minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon whole oregano leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sweet basil leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons grated cheese
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 pound ground sirloin
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2/3 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup grated cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

For the sauce, mix all the ingredients. Add more water to reach desired consistency. Bring to a simmering boil.

For the meatballs, mix the ingredients and form into balls, and drop into the boiling sauce. Stir frequently.

Cook for 1 1/2-2 hours on low simmer.

Serve over desired cooked pasta.
