Chakri or Murukku

A cookie-like snack that is comes from India and is traditionally made into a batter that may consist of rice flour, butter, corn oil, chili powder, and cumin seeds. However, Chakri is also often made from a combination or urad and rice flour seasoned with asafoetida or ajawin.

After the batter is mixed thoroughly it is extruded as a small diameter round-ribbed coil that is then fried into a crispy textured snack. In addition to a single coiled strand, some extruded coils of Chakri are typically formed into round spirals to make a small cookie-like product or formed into flat short ribbons of crispy fried ingredients. When referred to as Murukku it may also be known as Muruku or Murkoo.
